The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”) is federally enacted legislation which regulates the private sector’s management of personal information by establishing rules governing the collection, use and disclosure or personal information in the course of commercial activities. If you have not already done so, you need to take steps to bring your organization into compliance with the legislation. You should become familiar with the privacy legislation and the requirements for compliance. The Guide for Business and Organizations to Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act is available from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and is available at: www.priv.gc.ca.
